	Anto aka Made For Chickens By Robots hat mit niemand geringerem als Bob Log III, dem Godfather aller One Man Bands, persönlich die Schulbank gedrückt. Und genau wie sein Sandkastenkumpel wohnt auch er in Melbourne/Australien. Sein Sound ist allerdings etwas gschmeidiger, dafür aber vertrakter als der vom Bob. Anto arbeitet mit Loops und Geräuschen unter die er dann seine Pickin Blues Guitar, seine Kick und den Megafongesang legt. Die Songs sind meist sehr kurz gehalten. Kurzweilig könnte man sagen. Junior Disorder - Highspeed Rumpel One Man Band Krach Trash Disfunctional Outtatune or whatever... 2 Riffs hat der Wahlmünchner drauf, eins ist auf der Single. Er favorisiert den singenden Telefonhörer. Yeah! Wer DOO RAG (Bob Logs Duo Band in den 90ern) en speed mag, der ist hier richtig. Bumm Bumm Tschuktschuka. Possessed by Paul James, Stinky Lou und Reverend Beatman sind bekennende Fans dieses durchgeknallten gebürtigen Norditalieners.

	Hier ist sie! Die neue Made Out Of Babies! Immer noch Rock ohne Punkt und Komma und Noise mit klaustrophobischer und schizophrener Konnotation. Und das ganze vorgetragen von einer Frontfrau, die sich im Zorn geradezu zu suhlen scheint. Im Vergleich mit dem Vorgänger "Trophy" offenbart sich jedoch mehr als deutlich, welchen Schritt die Band nach vorn gemacht hat: Viel strukturierter, mit gedrosseltem Tempo, aber doch deutlich kraftvoller ausgefallen, präsentiert sich "Coward" als Vorbote der Apokalypse. "Coward" will nicht schön sein, wie schon das Cover eindrucksvoll vermittelt und Sängerin Julie Christmas klingt immer noch, als würde sie alles Leid der Welt in sich aufnehmen, nur um es danach mit manisch-weit aufgerissenen Augen in die unter sengender Sonne dahinsiechende Endzeit-Landschaft zurückzuschleudern. Mit "Coward" steigen Made Out Of Babies endgültig in die erste Liga des Noise auf und machen es sich neben Bands wie UNSANE, TODD, JESUS LIZARD und GUZZARD bequem.

	Songs:Ohia-Chef Jason Molina hat immer geträumt von dieser Band. Für viele Indiefans gilt das Gleiche. Was Molinas Gitarrenband so bezaubernd macht, ist der Mix aus Indiedüsternis und Glamour: Dieser ungeschliffene Folkrock geht dir mit schöner Vorstadtverzweiflung ans Herz, aber produziert hat (zumindest einige Songs) Starproduzent Steve Albini. Die Musik holpert mit ihrer Proberaumatmosphäre daher wie ein neugeborenes Elefantenbaby, und dazu heult Molina mit Schlingerstimme den Mond an, erzählt von Verlust und Vergänglichkeit. Schon gleich das erste Stück entwaffnet dich mit der rauen Schönheit des Unfertigen: "Don't fade on me" fleht Molina, und da ist sie: die bewegendste Indieballade des Jahres. Unter den Gästen verstecken sich übrigens David Lowery und Andrew Bird - spricht auch nicht gerade gegen das Album.

	Nachdem ihr letzte Scheibe auf BYO nun schon drei Jahre zurückliegt, schieben Manifesto Jukebox mit ??Strain'' nun endlich ihr drittes Album nach. Dieser relativ lange Zeitraum wurde jedoch umso intensiver genutzt, die Jungs haben ausgiebig an ihren neuen Material und Sound gearbeitet. Extrem positiv fällt dabei ins Gewicht das die Band mittlerweile mit einer zweiten Gitarre ausgestattet ist, Janni wechselte vom Bass an die zweite Gitarre und wurde durch Ville (der übrigens auch für das exzellente Cover verantwortlich ist) an den vier Saiten ersetzt. Das kommt besonders zum tragen da der Gitarrensound diesmal wesentlich cleaner und nicht mehr so breitwandig wie noch auf dem Vorgänger ist, hier zeigt sich umso deutlicher was für hervorragende Musiker und Songwriter die Finnen sind. Natürlich sind sie dabei ihrem Stil treu geblieben, schön rotzigauhen, erwachsen wirkenden Punkrock zu machen. Die neuen Stücke wirken nur noch eingängiger, druckvoller und ausgreifter. Der rauhe, kraftvolle und trotzdem hochmelodische Sound bildet den perfekten Rahmen für Atti's schön rauchige Vocals. Die Songs explodieren förmlich nach vorn. 	NEW Stefan Schneider, the former member of Kreidler, will aurally explore the African continent on the LP, which is entitled The Africa Chamber. Schneider's work here doesn't faithfully recreate sounds from Africa, though. Instead, as the PR states, it's "a fanciful wunderkammer of would-be African sounds" that see Schneider working in all manner of experimental sounds and methods. It's Schneider's debut behind the decks as a producer, and it marks a notable change in method. "More and more analogue percussion" has been added to the mix, courtesy of Nicholas Addo-Nettey and Thomas Klein. Robert Wyatt collaborator and talented trombonist Annie Whitehead also joins the crew for a number of tunes as well.

Zurückhaltung ist auch für diese beiden postrockistischen Elektroniker das Maß, und so lässt man den meditativ-molligen Flächen genügend Zeit zur Entfaltung. Das ist ganz famos geeignet für die zwangsläufig auf uns zukommenden langen Winterabende. Außerdem haftet einem jeden der sieben Songs – um noch eine Floskel oben draufzuschippen – etwas soundtrackartiges an. Welch Wunder, haben wir es hier doch mit Musik zu tun, mag sich die aufmerksame Leserin hier nicht ganz zu Unrecht denken. Und sollte dennoch ein Ohr riskieren. Spektakuläre Innovation findet man hier vielleicht nicht, dafür aber immense Detailverliebtheit und ein besonderes Gefühl für den großen Moment.

	Info The sicilian singer Mario Biondi surprises with such a deep and warm voice that lets you automatically think of a black singer. Certainly he’s capable of expressing his soul when singing. His first collaboration with Schema Records and producer Alessandro Magnanini lead to the release of „This Is What You Are“ (2004) as a single. Afterwards, in 2006, Mario’s debut entitled „Handful Of Soul“ (Schema), which rangs between Jazz and Soul, was released. The result was a very enticing album, whose sound swings from smooth vocal melodies to rhythmic tracks to dance to. The love for Rhythm & Blues and Soul, the styles of music mostly appreciated by Mario, took him to listen to a certain music repertoire, in particular some of the most representative related artists (Earth Wind & Fire, Donny Hattaway, Billy Paul, Luther Vandross, Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, Eryka Badu, Will Dowing ect.). The High Five Quintet front-line is comprised of producer Fabrizio Bosso on trumpet, winner of important awards in the category young Italian talent (Django d\'Or 2002 and Top Jazz 1999) and Daniele Scannapieco on tenor sax (winner of Django d\'Or 2003). Luca Mannutza, Pietro Ciancaglini and Lorenzo Tucci, respectively on piano, double bass and drums, form a solid rhythm section. Strong and with an excellent interplay, capable of creating articulate patterns along with refined accompaniments where the two solo players can best express their flamboyant skills. “This Is What You Are” – written by Alessandro Magnanini and Mario Biondi as the co-writer – is yet a fine piece of vocal jazz with fascinating harmonies and went on air in U.K. on heavy rotation in Norman Jay’s program Giant 45 for BBC London. Whereas in Italy was programmed by RMC and later became the music to the network’s corporate TV commercial. The B-Side “I Can’t Keep From Cryin’ Sometimes”, originally written by Al Kooper, tributes to rockblues, soul-blues and rhythm-blues where Mario’s soulful passionate singing shines throughout the song. Unfortunately Mario Biondi was rather reviewed in Italy and not that much in Germany. But both tracks fit perfectly to the style of Unique and for that reason there will be a limited 7 Inch relase (1000 pcs.) in January 2009. Two great songs to make the winter a little bit warmer.

	NEW Chilean born, German raised MATIAS AGUAYO is one of those rare talents you come across that genuinely works in music for the sake of loving music. KOMPAKT's long, love affair with MATIAS AGUAYO runs all the way back to his first official act (together with Dirk Leyers) as CLOSER MUSIK back in 2000. Though short lived, their releases were foundation builders for the label and still stand as relevant as the day the songs were recorded. Following their demise, Matias felt the urge to abandon the rules that he felt techno imposed on him and moved towards a more organic approach to making music. His first foray into this would be with his 2005 debut solo album "Are You Really Lost" (KOMPAKT CD 44) and was then followed with 2 singles for the respected SOULJAZZ imprint. Matias returned to KOMPAKT in 2008 with 2 12" bombs - the club anthems "Minimal" and "Walter Neff". Feeling refreshed and inspired from travelling throughout Latin America, Aguayo was back to end the cycle of boredom that was permeating dance music! His nomadic time there had brought him to explore a wealth of different stlyes of music and from his Buenos Aires base he had formed the label/collective Cómeme and the "bumbumbox" street parties which can be seen and heard all over their global voice - YouTube and MySpace. That brings us to his sophomore full length "AY AY AY". 	Ashley Beedle's MAVIS project was originally sparked three years ago when he and musical partner Darren Morris had an evening listening to Mavis Staples and the Staples Singers. The pair were so blown away, this led them to create an instrumental which became the inspiration for the MAVIS album. To Ashley, Mavis Staples and the Staples Singers have always been hugely iconic. "They're the glue in our DNA", says Ashley, "Not only was their recorded work amazing but their involvement in the Civil Rights movement really meant something to me." Over the last year this instrumental has engaged a plethora of the globe's vocal talent, whom have contributed their own stories and tales from the heart, following the inspirational Mavis trail, steered by Ashley and Darren. Revered artists such as Lambchop's Kurt Wagner, Candi Staton, Ed Harcourt, Edwyn Collins, Cerys Matthews and Saint Etienne's Sarah Cracknell have thrown themselves heart and soul into the MAVIS mix, paving the way for a palette of fresh talent such as Crazy P's Danielle Moore, John Turrell of Smoove & Turrell, Disa from Reykjavik and Dear Reader's Cherilyn MacNeil from South Africa. The vocal talent appearing on MAVIS is evocative, aspirational, inspirational and honest. On listening to the album, one can hear how the project grew and gained musical form from the input of collaborators Kurt Wagner, Disa and Edwyn Collins, whose individual tracks sweep across a similar landscape. MAVIS is a project that prides itself in being steeped in rich musical history, which will not only reach out to and seduce a more mature music-loving audience, but will also tantalise the eclectic taste buds of younger generation of fans - those who would naturally gravitate towards Ashley's dance music world. 	Ashley Beedle and Darren Morris present a taster for their Mavis project to the world via a vinyl only 10" Ep release on the 18th January. Over four tracks an introduction to the story of Mavis unfolds, acting as the perfect taster for the full album, due in February 2010. The EP features three of the guest vocalists from the album plus an alternate version of the Ed Harcourt track from the long player. Mavis has long been in the mind of Ashley Beedle and is named so in tribute to Mavis Staples of the Staples Singers. Taking an initial backing track as a starting point, numerous vocalists were approached and offered varied vocal takes which were then used as the basis for a remixing of the music to create original and diverse tracks from the one root. Kurt Wagner's 'Gangs Of Rome' deals with the fall of empire and took Ashley and Darren to a dark musical place, drawing on a seedy swing that swaggers like the Blood and Crips that embody the modern day gangs of the lyrics in the modern Rome of the USA. Ed Harcourt's two versions deal with a man facing the world alone, drawing the production duo into a world of drones and noise but punched through with a piano line for the finished version, the demo left more spaced out and disconnected. John Turrell's lolloping groove on 'What You Looking For' is a world away from both, a rich, soulful swing with a soaring chorus that drips with heart and passion as he confesses his shortcomings to an unnamed lover. The full length Mavis album features the artists above alongside established names such as Cerys Matthews, Sarah Cracknell, Edwyn Collins and Candi Staton whilst introducing a new generation of voices in Crazy P's Danielle Moore, Disa from Reykjavik and Dear Reader's Cherilyn MacNeil in addition to John Turrell of Smooth and Turrell who appears on the EP.

	Meine kleine Deutsche sind ein Phänomen, gegründet 2002 von Maria ''Mia'' Johansson und Patrik Boman sind sie so was wie die Urväter des skandinavischen Electroclash. Und das im Norden Europas die Kunst mit Computer zu musizieren eine eigene Blüte erreicht hat, weiß die Allgemeinheit spätestens seit The Knife oder Aavikko. Mit „Before people forget sound“ liegt jetzt das dritte Album der Stockholmer vor. 3 Jahre hat man am Sound gefeilt und getüftelt, hat entworfen um zu verwerfen um neu zu gestalten. Zudem wurde sich Verstärkung geholt in Form von Max Groundstroem ( Sons of Cyrus, Holiday Fun Club) an der Gitarre und Topi The Kat ( Sons of Cyrus, Front de Boeuf ) am Schlagzeug. Dominierte bei den ersten beiden Alben noch die Wildheit a la Bikini Kill, durchströmt ihr drittes Album melancholische Nachdenklichkeit. Nun ist Elektroclash nicht erst seit gestern in aller Munde, doch was machen Meine kleine Deutsche anders als all die anderen Bands? Die Antwort ist simple und einfach . Ihr Punkbegriff beginnt nicht 1977, sondern 1967 und umfasst die Monks genauso wie Velvet Underground. Er beruft sich auf die Zeit in der sich das Kreative Potential nicht nur auf Heyho und Lederjacke beschränkte, sondern durch Minimalisierung – Wut, Trauer, Freunde, Verzweiflung eine völlig neue Ausdruckskraft verliehen wurde. 	Meine kleine Deutsche sind ein Phänomen, gegründet 2002 von Maria ''Mia'' Johansson und Patrik Boman sind sie so was wie die Urväter des skandinavischen Electroclash. Und das im Norden Europas die Kunst mit Computer zu musizieren eine eigene Blüte erreicht hat, weiß die Allgemeinheit spätestens seit The Knife oder Aavikko. Mit „Before people forget sound“ liegt jetzt das dritte Album der Stockholmer vor. 3 Jahre hat man am Sound gefeilt und getüftelt, hat entworfen um zu verwerfen um neu zu gestalten. Zudem wurde sich Verstärkung geholt in Form von Max Groundstroem ( Sons of Cyrus, Holiday Fun Club) an der Gitarre und Topi The Kat ( Sons of Cyrus, Front de Boeuf ) am Schlagzeug. Dominierte bei den ersten beiden Alben noch die Wildheit a la Bikini Kill, durchströmt ihr drittes Album melancholische Nachdenklichkeit. Nun ist Elektroclash nicht erst seit gestern in aller Munde, doch was machen Meine kleine Deutsche anders als all die anderen Bands? Die Antwort ist simple und einfach . Ihr Punkbegriff beginnt nicht 1977, sondern 1967 und umfasst die Monks genauso wie Velvet Underground. Er beruft sich auf die Zeit in der sich das Kreative Potential nicht nur auf Heyho und Lederjacke beschränkte, sondern durch Minimalisierung – Wut, Trauer, Freunde, Verzweiflung eine völlig neue Ausdruckskraft verliehen wurde. Mitreissender Post-Rock oder -Punk, eigentlich egal wie man??s bezeichnen möchte, mit dem Charisma von Bands wie frühen Van Pelt oder Built To Spill. Unglaublich melodisch und verspielt, ein wenig verträumt um dann wieder gerade nach vorne zu rocken. Die Songs leben von den gefühlvoll-melodischen Gitarrenläufen, dem mürrisch treibenden Bass und dem meist mehrstimmigen, mitreissenden Vocals. Alles kleine, aber sehr wichtige Bestandteile die jeden Song zu einer kleinen Hymne werden lassen. Insgesamt einfach ein Album wie ein warmer Sommerwind. Schön das es noch Scheiben gibt die so gut tun können... dicke Empfehlung !!

	"after the release of 40 sekunden ohne gewicht, emphase is proud to present this first miniklon-release. 1,5 farfisa was composed and recorded by miniklon-member dirk specht. in fact he used only one farfisa, but several distortion- and compression-effects. that's why specht decided to name his piece 1,5 farfisa. he created a hypnotic track with a deep, heartbeatlike groove. it contrasts with 6 mbiras in many ways, but like this it's overtones provide a subtle deepness. musician and sound-artist frank schültge aka f.s.:blumm works and releases with countless musical projects on labels like morr, gefriem, tom, staubgold, plattenmeister and others. definitely blumm reached an underground cult-status in germany already. blumm composed 6 mbiras as an answer to 1,5 farfisa: "now my job - introducing the instrument according to its inherent nature and, at the same time, empathizing with "1.5 farfisa" - was not hard, because the automatic expression which arises when i play the mbira has mostly a repetitive and minimal-music-like gesture." another reference is -not only by name-: "six marimbas", a piece by steve reich." Classic Moroder meets disco era Blondie. On Saturn. A dance track, which conjures up visions of dry ice, ultra-violet lighting and spinning mirror ball reflections. Sometimes, it's not so easy to tell when one steps out of the club. "1000 Dreams Reprise". Had he been around, the King would have gotten on down to this at Studio 54 for sure. In his white suit. "Electronic City". Original metal beat minimalism (Conny Plank/John Foxx style) dissolves into the purist of neon melodies. A wonderful and extremely moving track, contrasting (and then fusing) starkness and warmth. It's all present here. Berlin... are you listening? "Inutile Eternite". Futile Eternity. In which the BBC Radiophonic Workshop guided by The Hacker has kidnapped Kittin and tele-transported her to Spirea X. Ultra-Nu Beat for the 21st Century. "Ray Ban". Potentially the perfect TV ad soundtrack for your favourite after-hours shades and eye-wear brand. "Is it grey? Or blue?" What is reality? Sometimes, it's not so easy to tell when one steps out of the club. "1000 Dreams Reprise". A luscious electronic lullaby for the end to a perfect evening brings the album to a soothing and gentle close. In the twilight of a listen. A fitting ending to an excellent album. Miss Kittin and The Hacker hit the road in 2009 and will be appearing live across Europe from April onwards, hitting the USA in September and then onto Asia and Australia. Dates to follow. When the year 2009 is over and done (as it will be much sooner than we think), let's remember the year not for the woes of the world and the hard times, let's remember it for the good. 	Vancouver New Wave Punk aus den Jahren 1980 ??1983. 15 Songs, die meist mit schmissigen und ekstatischen Melodien versehen sind. Die englischen Mod Punk und Power Pop Bands der ?ra sind ein deutlich hörbares Vorbild für die Modernettes gewesen. Enthalten sind Songs all ihrer Platten plus einige bisher unveröffentlichte Livetracks und Probeaufnahmen. Neben einer LP haben sie noch einige Ep??s veröffentlicht. Seite A ist durchgängig gut. Seite 2 zeigt mit den späteren Aufnahmen eine Abkehr vom bisherigen Stil. So ist zum Beispiel der Song ??Rebel Kind?? deutlich vom Folk Rock der Byrds geprägt und die von Bassistin Mary Jo Kopechne wunderbar gesungene Velvet Underground Cover-Version von ??Femme Fatal?? weist wieder in eine völlig andere Richtung. Man merkt dass die Band in dieser Zeit (82-83) allerhand ausprobierte, einiges davon ist ganz gut gelungen, aber wie man so schön sagt. der alte Schwung war hin! Dennoch. eine höchst gelungene Zusammenstellung die einen perfekten ?berblick über das Schaffen der Modernettes liefert.

	''Tu nicht so, als würdest du mich kennen!'' - einen passenderen Albumtitel hätten sich Matt und Davide von den MOJOMATICS nicht ausdenken können, denn wer nach den beiden ersten Platten des Duos aus Venedig dachte, er würde die minimalistisch instrumentierte Band (Gitarre, Schlagzeug, Percussion, Mundharmonika, Gesang) kennen, schaut schon beim Opener ''Wait a while'' verwundert aus der Wäsche: Ja, klar sind das die MOJOMATICS, aber warum klingen die jetzt so britisch und gar nicht mehr so nach Mississippi-Delta wie auf dem Debüt ''A Sweet Mama Gonna Hoodoo Me'' und auch nicht mehr so dylanesk wie partiell auf ''Songs For Faraway Lovers''? Nun, ich würde sagen, die MOJOMATICS lassen mit jedem Album einem weiteren, in ihrem Sound schon angelegten Einfluss den Vortritt, und diesmal ist es eben das, was der Amerikaner einst als ''British Invasion'' wahrnahm. Keine abrupte Wendung also, sondern nur ein Album, das im ersten Moment verwirrt und im zweiten dann schon ein guter Freund ist. Erwähnter Opener ''Wait a while'' ist aber nicht der einzige Hit unter den zwölf Songs, eigentlich sind sie alle solch überschwängliche, lässig shakende Gute-Laune-Tunes, die auch in ihrer Gesamtheit völlig makellos sind. Ein Album, das völlig zeitlos ist, das losgelöst von allem Trend-Crap und Hypes existiert. Bravo!. (9/10) OX

	Monade ist der Künstlername von Laetitia Sadier, wenn sie nicht gerade die Frontfrau von Stereolab ist. Ursprünglich als reines Selfmade Hobbyprojekt gestartet, entwickelte sich Monade mittlerweile zu einer veritablen Band mit fester Besetzung. Neben Laetitia, die für Moog, Tamburin, Posaune und natürlich Stimme verantwortlich zeichnet, sind noch Marie Merlet (Bass), Nicolas Etienne (Keyboards) und Schlagzeuger Xavier Chabellard mit von der Partie. Monade veröffentlichte bereits 2003 eine CD, die ihren Untertitel "The Bedroom Recordings" durchaus zu Recht trug, da sie ebendort aufgenommen wurde. "A Few Steps More" liefert nun erstmals Monade-Songs in properer Produktion, gemixt im Stereolab Studio. Und wenn auch die Stimme an Stereolab erinnern mag, mit Monade verfolgt Laetitia einen anderen Ansatz, der vor allem bestimmt wird von der Entwicklung des Projektes zur Band. Sparsame Arrangements, minimale Perkussion, Posaunen und markante Stimme fügt eine unaufdringlich aufspielende Band zu einem harmonischen Ganzen. Nicht nur für Frankophile empfehlenswert, da betörend schön und wirklich mehr als die "Summe der Teile".

Bis jetzt wurde uns glauben gemacht, dass die MONKS, nachdem ihre LP ein Flop war, versuchten noch ein paar popigge Hits zu landen und nach dem diese Singles fehlschlugen, im Nichts der Zeit verschwanden. Doch nichts liegt weiter von der Wahrheit enfernt als das: gebunden durch ihren Vertrag mit Polydor durften die Monks nicht die Musik aufnehmen und veröffentlichen, die sie wirklich wollten. Daher schlichen sich die Monks 1967 heimlich ins Tonstudio Pfanz (bei Hamburg) um diese unglaubliche, Fuzz getriebene Freak Beat Version von Pretty Suzanne aufzunehmen, auf ihre eigenen Kosten! Zu versuchen Deutschlands größtes Plattenlabel zu hintergehen … mehr Punk geht ja wohl nicht!! Klare Sache, als das Label davon Wind bekam gab es massiven Ärger und die Version blieb bis heute unveröffentlicht. Legale Erstveröffentlichung in voller Zusammenarbeit mit den Monks! 	Das Cover mit den wirren Zeichnungen deutet etwas süßlichere Musik an, FEELING OF LOVE ist aber eine One-Man-Band aus Frankreich, die eher den musikalischen Extremsport bevorzugt. Auf dem vorliegenden Splitrelease wird er diesmal meistens von einem Drummer unterstützt, so dass man jetzt zu zweit den Club und die Trommelfelle zerlegen kann. So treffen sich dann eine heulende Slidegitarre, Keyboardkrach und rumpelige Beats zum Drogen-Bluespunk, und ich muss grinsen bei dem Gedanken, was gerade wohl die Nachbarn denken. Manchmal kann man sogar drauf tanzen. Die Italiener von den MOVIE STAR JUNKIES scheinen zumindest live einen ähnlichen Durchdrehfaktor wie die früheren BLACK LIPS zu bevorzugen, die vier Songs der 10'' sind aber nicht ganz so kaputt wie die der Kollegen, kommen eher stoischer, psychotischer und teilweise mit einem fiependen Saxophon. An einigen Stellen fast wie die SCIENTISTS unproduziert, an anderer dann mehr als klassische Bluespunker. Aufgenommen hat übrigens eine Hälfte der MOJOMATICS, der bei einem Song auch seine Harp beigepackt hat.

In den letzten 18 Jahren haben sie sich in Steckdosen in aller Welt eingestöpselt, und jedes Mal den Beweis erbracht, dass sie eine der beständigsten und elektrisierendsten Bands sind, welche die Grunge Implosion überlebt haben. Was auch immer das gewesen sein mag… Das wölfische Heulen vom Sänger Mark Arm, die beseelten Gitarrensprenkler von Gitarrist Steve Turner und die wahnwitzigen Erschütterungen von Drummer Dan Peters begleiten bislang neun Alben, die meisten davon wurden nicht als Grunge sondern als Neo-Garage betitelt. Was auch immer das sein mag… Zwei Bassisten zupften derweil bei MUDHONEY den Viersaiter. Matt Lukin, der 1999 die Band verließ, wurde daraufhin vom Australier Guy Maddison ersetzt. Dieser bildet zusammen mit Dan auch auf dem neuen Album „Under A Billion Suns“ die Rhythmussektion. Während die Geschichte beweist, dass Musiker größtenteils unzuverlässige Menschen sind, wenn es um Kontinuität geht, sind MUDHONEY nie von ihrer ursprünglichen Fährte - wirklich laute Rockmusik zu produzieren - abgekommen und auch dieses Album stellt keine Ausnahme dar. Wie auch immer man „laut“ definieren mag… Produziert wurde „Under A Billion Suns“ mit Hilfe von drei der wichtigsten Knöpfchen Dreher aus Seattle: Phil Ek (The Shins, Built To Spill, Dinosaur Jr., Modest Mouse, J. Mascis), Johnny Sangster (Steve Turner, The Briefs, Posies, Mudhoney), Tucker Martine (John Zorn, Bill Frisell, Laura Veirs). Sie alle werkelten getreu dem MUDHONEY Motto: Dicker Sound, durchnässte Punk-Riffs und unterbewertete Gitarren Dynamik, psychedelische Berührungspunkte und rotznasiges Zeigen mit dem Finger. 	Was soll man dazu schreiben, ohne sofort Verdacht zu wecken, dass man übertreibt? Der 35-jährige Fernando Corona aus Mexico alias Murcof macht mit die beste Musik, die es gegenwärtig auf diesem Planeten gibt. Das deutete sich bereits auf seinem Erstling Martes an, Remembranza übertrifft alle meine hohen Erwartungen. Was macht diese Musik aus? Zuvorderst die Editierkunst von Fernando Corona. Wie auf Martes verwendet er viele Sounds von Streichern und editiert sie mit rhytmischen Glitches, die klingen, als würdest du ECM-Platten von Minimalisten auflegen und den Tonabnehmer mit Druck in die Rille hineinsetzen und wieder hinaus ziehen. Er verschmilzt mit diesen Effekten digitale Glitches und warme, emotionale Klänge, wie man das seit Trip Hop oder Drum'n'Bass kaum mehr gehört hat - ausser vielleicht bei Vladislav Delay. Die neun Tracks auf diesem Album sind alle samt spannend, die Effekte bzw. Murcofs Ton- und Soundsprache erschöpfen sich nicht. Ein Meisterwerk!

Das exzellente Songwriting hat Sänger Erik Jonasson auch schon bei den Sons Of Cyrus perfektioniert und dementsprechend gibt es hier sehr schön tough rockenden Mitt 70er Power Pop mit einer leichten Spur Sixties Garage Punk (vor allem bei ''I'll be gone'' mit mehr als deutlicher Reminiszenz an Roky Erickson).

	Mönster, die zweite! Und eins vorweg: ich bin mehr als begeistert! Die Songs gehen zwar immer noch straight nach vorne und haben auch hier und dort eine gute Rockkante, aber im direkten Vergleich zur ersten LP wirkt die neue Scheibe doch wesentlich melodischer und eingängiger. Es scheint, als ob Jobst ein paar vergessene Peace Of Mind Riffs eingebaut hätte, die sich perfekt den treibenden Hardcore Punk Songs anpassen und den Songs nochmals mehr Breite geben. Klingt irgendwie wie eine Mischung aus Quarantine, AC/DC und Born Dead Icons und ist jedenfalls kein Hardcore Punk von der Stange. Aber das war ja auch das Debüt Album nicht.
