Franov collaborated with Juana Molina on three of her albums, "Segundo" (2000), "Tres Cosas" (2002) and "Son" (2006). With "Khali" Staubgold is proud to present his first worldwide release, after five solo albums which have only been released in South America and Japan. "Khali" which is mainly based on three instruments - the African mbira, the Paraguayan harp arpa and the Indian sitar - is the result of Franov's studies in African and Arabic music, especially the music of the Shona from Zimwbabwe. He carefully combines these unique instruments with percussion, voices and minimal electronics in order to create a comfortably floating stream of world music in the purest sense, hardly relating to any certain country or region. On the one hand "Khali" is the name of the Croatian island where Franov's grandfather was born, on the other hand it's taken from the tabla rhythm cycle of Hindustani music, and it's the name of a Hindu goddess. Auf den elf Songs (zwölf mit Intro) präsentiert Annie ein Pop-Panoptikum, das R’n’B’- (Always Too Late) wie Retro-Disco- (Come Together) oder Elektro-Einflüsse einschliesst (Happy Without You) und dennoch nach einem stimmigen Ganzen klingt. Dass The Greatest Hit auch drauf ist und sich sehr gut einfügt in die neuen Songs, zeugt davon, dass Annie genau weiss, wie ihr Sound klingen soll und eine Richtung verfolgt. Der Nachfolger zu The Greatest Hit könnte Chewing Gum werden, die erste Single-Auskopplung, ein Elektro-Synthie-Song mit einem edgy Stop-and-Go-Beat, in dem Männer mit Kaugummmis gleichgesetzt werden (“Hey Annie, well, look at you! Is that a new boy stuck on your shoe?”). Me Plus One bringt wohl Annies Sound am besten auf den Punkt: Glitzernde Melodien, unterlegt mit elektronischen Spielereien und einem doch unerwarteten Beat, bei dem es (wohl dosiert) wummert und peitscht und piept. My Heartbeat lässt einen nach gewissen anfänglichen Akzeptanzschwierigkeiten von so viel Harmonie in einem Song nicht mehr los. Annie singt honigsüss vom Tanzen und Ausgehen über eine Melodie wie aus rosa Watte, der Beat stämpfelt ganz dezent voran. Sicherlich der Ohrwurm dieser Platte.

	tip---rares vinyl Strange and Beautiful is essentially a combination of songs from Matt Hales' (the creative force behind Aqualung) to UK albums, and it is the same brand of British pop popularized by the above bands: mildy weepy, lovelorn and seriously in touch with its feelings. This is not hooligan music: it pokes at the tender underbelly of emotion and emerges teary-eyed and broken. Swirling mists of piano and synth are layered beneath ethereal vocals drenched in longing. That said, the album is also true to its name. For all the near-sobbing, this is a well-written bunch of songs, and will certainly appeal to fans of the Garden State soundtrack, or any of the bands it apes. The same sort of melody structure is in evidence throughout, as nearly all of the songs warble by in subdued tone before building to an emotionally-charged chorus. The title song, "Strange and Beautiful" was featured on the Wicker Park soundtrack, a great collection for lovers of this brand of pop. It is the catchiest tune on the album save "Brighter Than Sunshine," which is so similar to Coldplay, it's eerie.

	Der als „Trommler von Tocotronic“ bekannt gewordene Hamburger Künstler Arne Zank hat sich viel Zeit genommen für sein erstes, jetzt endlich auf dem bandeigenen Label Rock-O-Tronic erscheinendes Solo-Album. Composed und aufgenommen wurden die 6 Tracks bei ihm zu Hause auf dem Laptop, mit bescheidenem Old-School-Equipment, einigen Lieblingsgeräten zwischen Keyboards, Gitarren und Rumbanüssen. Mit ein wenig Hilfe von Freunden wie Turner, DJ Phono und Thomas Maringer wurde der Klang optimiert und auf den Punkt gebracht. Zank beteiligt sich nicht am eitlen Rattenrennen hochgezüchteter Hi-Techproduktionen, sondern sucht den unmittelbaren Ausdruck des Singer-Songwriters - ohne dessen konventionelle Strukturen zu übernehmen. Das ist dann vielleicht die DJ Shirley in ihm, eines seiner Pseudonyme, die sich Musik einfach nicht einsam vorstellen kann, sondern immer in einer sozialen Situationen auf einem zumindest imaginablen Dancefloor. Er gönnt sich lange, irre führende Intros, bis schließlich doch die gerade Bassdrum einfährt – nichts und niemand niederknüppelnd, sondern alle schlicht ergreifend erlösend.

With the recent release of a film about his life (‘A Portrait of Arthur Russell’), as well as a new album of unreleased recordings, (‘Love Is Overtaking Me’), Arthur Russell’s stature as a great artist has grown to is current height. (\\\"One of the great songwriters of the 2oth Century\\\" The Wire). - Arthur Russell holds a unique place in the history of dance music. As an artist he had the admiration of everyone from Philip Glass to Todd Terry. As well as his solo work he also formed the seminal groups Dinosaur L and Loose Joints in the 1980s. With tracks such as \\\"Go Bang\\\" and \\\"Is It All Over My Face?\\\", Russell redefined Dance music in the 1980s as both an intelligent and subversive form. At the centre of the New York Dance scene in the 1980s, Russell was co-founder of Sleeping Bag Records along with Will Socolov. As well as releasing Russell’s own material, Sleeping Bag would release seminal music from Mantronix, Larry Levan, Patrick Adams, EPMD, Joyce Sims and Todd Terry amongst others. As a regular visitor at David Mancuso’s \\\" Loft\\\", and Nicky Siano’s \\\"Gallery\\\" nightclubs and even Studio 54, Russell immersed himself in the New York Dance scene whilst continuing to create avant-garde experimental music. These two elements in his life and music make him truly unique. Larry Levan, Walter Gibbons and Francois Kervorkian all played pivotal roles as remixers of Russell’s work and feature on many of the tracks featured here. - Arthur Russell died in 1992 from AIDS leaving behind an enormous body of work. 	2007 tolle Folkrock Platte Beinahe alle Lieder haben etwas Erhabenes. Nur der Beginn von Six Yields stampft mit donnernden Paukenschlägen voran, man möchte mitwippen, da wird es mal rockig für ein paar Minuten. Wenn man aber genau hinhört, dann hört man ihn schon wieder: diesen Chor vom Verlassenwerden. Melancholie kann so zauberhaft klingen.

	Ehemalige MUM & Animal Collective Mitglieder mit neuen Ideen! Avey and Kria recorded their debut collaboration “Pullhair Rubeye” with guitars and piano on an eight track in their practice space in Brooklyn. Then they traveled to upstate New York where the record was mixed down onto a two track borrowed from a friend who bought it at a garage sale for a dollar. Just as the two were completing the mix, the two track broke down and Avey and Kria didn\'t hear the mixes until two months later when they obtained another two track. After this short vacation, they were surprised by the sounds they had made.
