	Ashley Beedle's MAVIS project was originally sparked three years ago when he and musical partner Darren Morris had an evening listening to Mavis Staples and the Staples Singers. The pair were so blown away, this led them to create an instrumental which became the inspiration for the MAVIS album. To Ashley, Mavis Staples and the Staples Singers have always been hugely iconic. "They're the glue in our DNA", says Ashley, "Not only was their recorded work amazing but their involvement in the Civil Rights movement really meant something to me." Over the last year this instrumental has engaged a plethora of the globe's vocal talent, whom have contributed their own stories and tales from the heart, following the inspirational Mavis trail, steered by Ashley and Darren. Revered artists such as Lambchop's Kurt Wagner, Candi Staton, Ed Harcourt, Edwyn Collins, Cerys Matthews and Saint Etienne's Sarah Cracknell have thrown themselves heart and soul into the MAVIS mix, paving the way for a palette of fresh talent such as Crazy P's Danielle Moore, John Turrell of Smoove & Turrell, Disa from Reykjavik and Dear Reader's Cherilyn MacNeil from South Africa. The vocal talent appearing on MAVIS is evocative, aspirational, inspirational and honest. On listening to the album, one can hear how the project grew and gained musical form from the input of collaborators Kurt Wagner, Disa and Edwyn Collins, whose individual tracks sweep across a similar landscape. MAVIS is a project that prides itself in being steeped in rich musical history, which will not only reach out to and seduce a more mature music-loving audience, but will also tantalise the eclectic taste buds of younger generation of fans - those who would naturally gravitate towards Ashley's dance music world. 	Ashley Beedle and Darren Morris present a taster for their Mavis project to the world via a vinyl only 10" Ep release on the 18th January. Over four tracks an introduction to the story of Mavis unfolds, acting as the perfect taster for the full album, due in February 2010. The EP features three of the guest vocalists from the album plus an alternate version of the Ed Harcourt track from the long player. Mavis has long been in the mind of Ashley Beedle and is named so in tribute to Mavis Staples of the Staples Singers. Taking an initial backing track as a starting point, numerous vocalists were approached and offered varied vocal takes which were then used as the basis for a remixing of the music to create original and diverse tracks from the one root. Kurt Wagner's 'Gangs Of Rome' deals with the fall of empire and took Ashley and Darren to a dark musical place, drawing on a seedy swing that swaggers like the Blood and Crips that embody the modern day gangs of the lyrics in the modern Rome of the USA. Ed Harcourt's two versions deal with a man facing the world alone, drawing the production duo into a world of drones and noise but punched through with a piano line for the finished version, the demo left more spaced out and disconnected. John Turrell's lolloping groove on 'What You Looking For' is a world away from both, a rich, soulful swing with a soaring chorus that drips with heart and passion as he confesses his shortcomings to an unnamed lover. The full length Mavis album features the artists above alongside established names such as Cerys Matthews, Sarah Cracknell, Edwyn Collins and Candi Staton whilst introducing a new generation of voices in Crazy P's Danielle Moore, Disa from Reykjavik and Dear Reader's Cherilyn MacNeil in addition to John Turrell of Smooth and Turrell who appears on the EP.
