	WOW! Thrill Jockey is very excited to introduce you to Terrible Two, the brand new album from Baltimore’s Thank You. The album recording was engineered by Baltimore’s beloved J. Robbins (Yeasayer, Mary Timony, Jets to Brazil) at his studio and was produced and mixed by Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Celebration, TV on the Radio) at his studio in New York City. Thank You is an athletic rhythm/action unit, made up of Jeffrey McGrath, Michael Bouyoucas, and Elke Wardlaw. They are three free individuals, subsumed into a collective form that spits out dank, skittering tracks filled with light and dark. The band has been building up a reputation via their live show, which has left audience members joyful, overwhelmed, and ready to spread the word. A seeming telepathy occurs onstage. The band enters into musical dervishes, a union, a breathless chaos that results in one hell of a Saturday night and what seems like a musical fight. Not to worry, though. The members of Thank You are longtime friends and musical collaborators, working hard to bring to life their wholly original compositions. Musical ideas are introduced and have conversations with one another, each track filled with new articulation and insight. The basics of drums, organ, and guitar build the foundation, but are augmented by whistles, cowbell, hobo harmonica, snappy loops, car horns, and whatever else might be at hand. With the new album, building on the template they have created, under the otherworldly guidance of producer Chris Coady, the band has utilized live staples and new compositions to create a fully realized portrait. They sing, they dance, they go far away and come back. The listener taps their toes, nods their head, and smiles, welcomed into their glorious song. It is safe to say that beat-diggers and electronic artists will have a rich resource in the recorded output of the band, each track having the potential to be chopped and screwed, looped and loped into new soundtracks and sample beds. 	There has been of late a resurgence of good rock music coming out of Europe to challenge the already strongly eastablished groups on the home front. Not least of these new forces is the J.J. Band, a cosmopolitan collection of highly intelligent young men with a thorough knowledge of jazz which they have translated into their own individual brand of rock music. The nine piece band has an impressive list of musical qualifications to its credit. The Belgium members of the band all studied music at the Brussels' Conservatoire and the American member Douglas Lucas, a professor who taught music at Chicago University later met the band while teaching in Brussels. Finally Mike Lovell, the English member of the group was a member of the National Youth Orchestra. Altough from different parts of the globe they have combined together to form a very tight knit group producing their own more suttle rendition of the jazz/rock amalgam which has gone from strenght to strenght over the past few years. 	NEW SEALED Alluringly extravagant abstract electronica from NYC scenester Rusty Santos, who's made his name mixing and collaborating with all the city's major musical exports (Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear and Panda Bear, most prominently). The Way We Are follows up his Loaf debut The World I See, and takes a more experimental form than any of the projects he's helped out on previously. Although there are shades of Black Dice running through these playful effects-driven soundscapes, Santos avoids anything so organised or straight-forward as a loop - or even an orderly rhythm. 'Salt Water Trails' enters into a peculiar aquatic sound world full of chaos, drones and early electronics-style manipulations, while 'Space Meadow' invites the listener into a more serene, ambient spread of sounds that channels a weird, whale song psychedelia. There's noisier fare in here too, as on 'Press Play', but generally speaking however experimental all this gets your ears aren't put under too much duress. The title track is probably the most testing thing here, providing the main course in this auditory feast, and sprawling out across a disorientating half-hour of improvised laptop surrealism.

	Don\'t fear the future. These are Powers have come to conjure the new musical golden age you\'ve been waiting for--one of insistence, intensity, and light. And yes, you can dance to it. These Are Powers are known for the dissonance of their early recordings, a cacophony of rhythms and industrial/electronic experiments that recalled Throbbing Gristle one moment, DNA the next. Once rule-breakers, the band is now rewriting those rules with a newfound focus: behold All Aboard Future. Exotic, abstract, hand-crafted sounds--made, found and electronically born--underscore each of these nine songs. Some wail from Pat Noecker\'s prepared bass; others stem from the idiosyncratic vocal and guitar style of Anna Barie. The two trade off vocal duties, and in the process dissonant sounds become melodies held together and torn apart in fits by Bill Salas\' electro-acoustic beats. At first listen, much of Salas\' rhythmic contribution sounds as if it could be pre-programmed, but these abstract rhythms are all performed live, interspersing nods to Timbaland with an appreciation for a car crash\'s metal-on-metal grind. Ferocious and unhinged, when These Are Powers perform live, it is a kind of spiritual journey, a futuristic fire dance hailing from Chicago and Brooklyn. The bass smolders, topping its low-end sub-rumble with a high-end flutter; abstract beats emanate from the electro-acoustic stand-up drum kit. And piercing through is Anna Barie\'s guitar while she and Noecker call and respond. Barie blasts through a litany of expressive guitar sounds and full-throated yelps and howls with a confrontational, explosive energy that often finds her entangled with audience members, leaping through the air, or sprawled on the floor in front of the stage. With All Aboard Future, These Are Powers have embraced collaborators, demonstrating their participating in not only a music community, but a community of ideas. The band invited 13 artists from Chicago, New York and Beijing to interpret All Aboard Future, either drawing from the musical ideas of the album or solely the album title. The artwork adorns the pages of All Aboard Future\'s accompanying booklet. Photography, painting, collage, text and more--the record becomes the collective expression of artists creating in many media. All Aboard Future was written and recorded in Chicago during the summer of 2008, and follows the band\'s 2007 debut LP, Terrific Seasons, and 2008\'s six song Taro Tarot. All Aboard Future is not just a new album from These Are Powers. It\'s a seismic shift. A new idea. And the sentiment is real. All Aboard Future!

	Sealed 2008 Der Hörer im Verhör Das eröffnende Stück „Numerology (Aka Numbers)“ ist da beispielhaft: Ein zunächst gemäßigter Beat nimmt Fahrt auf, ein scharfes Postpunk-Gitarrenriff legt sich darüber, Jack Barnett stellt im Sprechgesang eine dem Ton nach offenbar äußerst dringliche Frage: „What’s your favourite number? / What does it mean?“ Tatsächlich findet hier ein Verhör statt, wie mit einem zufällig in die Fänge eines Geheimdienstes geratenen Hörer, der nur raten kann, was man von ihm wissen will. Es folgen Erläuterungen zur Zahlensymbolik, unterlegt mit Synthesizer-Signalen. „Every number has a meaning“, insistiert Barnett und wiederholt ebendieses Axiom mehrfach wie ein Mantra. Auch die Zahl seiner Wiederholungen muss hier etwas bedeuten. „I will say this twice“, heißt es am Anfang und am Schluss des Albums. Pop als Geheimcode Obwohl der Promotext noch auf die Zahlenmystik des Renaissance-Okkultisten John Dee hinweist, geht es hier offensichtlich um Konzeptpop, um Musik, in der jeder Beat über sich hinausweist, ohne dass sich eine Bedeutung fixieren ließe: „This Music is weightless, this music’s symbolic“, singt Barnett. Auf „Numbers“ folgt „Colours“, weitere Titel lauten etwa „C. 16th +-“ oder „ £4“ oder „MKK3“ – benannt nach einem Botenstoff im Körper. Geheimcodes, Chiffren und Abkürzungen sind das Material, aus dem These New Puritans ihre Songs eher erzeugen als komponieren. Herausgeschriene Parolen wie „We were right / We were right / We were right“ oder ein immer wieder repetierter Refrain wie „En Papier“ gewinnen jenseits der kryptischen wörtlichen die höhere Bedeutung von Schlacht- oder Ordnungsrufen. Das führt im Klangverbund mit den schmerzenden Bassläufen, den schrillen, sirenenartigen Synthesizern und den Feedbacks zu im Höchstmaß ansteckender Hysterie, zu einer Alarmstimmung, die auf globale und gesellschaftliche Krisen reagiert. Experten schauen dich an Es ist keine Zeit mehr zu verlieren mit Musik über private Befindlichkeiten – man ist schließlich im Visier. „We’re being watched by experts“, weiß Barnett in „Elvis“, und dagegen helfen nur fachmännisch errichtete Klangwände. Im Video dazu sieht man auf drastische Weise die unter die Haut gehenden Überwachungsmaßnahmen. Gegen die normierende Biomacht mobilisieren These New Puritans den Körper des Hörers, der unmittelbar und ohne Umwege über die Großhirnrinde angewählt wird. Die Nummer, unter der man alle erreicht, ist die Taktzahl. Zur Besessenheit der Band von Zeichenuniversen passt auch die Geschichte ihres schnellen Ruhms, als sie der Modedesigner Hedi Slimane den Soundtrack für seine letzte Herbstkollektion entwerfen ließ. Den Retro-Look von „Beat Pyramid“ ließen sich These New Puritans von Gareth Jones perfektionieren, der seinerzeit legendäre Alben von Depeche Mode, den Neubauten oder auch Wire produzierte – deutlich hörbare Einflüsse, die die vier erst Neunzehnjährigen (neben Jack Barnett dessen Zwillingsbruder John am Schlagzeug, Thomas Hein am Bass und Sophie Sleigh-Johnson am Synthesizer) sendungs- und selbstbewusst an die Gegenwart anschließen: Postpunk im Präsens. Verschärfte Wahrnehmung Denn es geht nicht um Achtziger-Vintage oder um billige, radiotaugliche Wiedererkennungseffekte, sondern um die Indienstnahme mit Aggressivität und Apokalypse konnotierter Soundpartikel, um die Erzeugung hypersensibler Wahrnehmung. Daher ist „Beat Pyramid“ weder ein massentaugliches Tanzalbum wie von Hot Chip noch ein zu ertüftelndes Klangkunstwerk für den Kopfhörer daheim, sondern eine Warnung. Sie sagen es nicht zweimal.

	The 12" is presented in a proper LP jacket and pressed in an edition of 1,500 copies for the world and cut at 45rpm. To follow up the release of their first new studio album in five years, Tortoise returns with a two song remix 12" of songs from Beacons of Ancestorship. In the late 90s Tortoise released a series of highly influential remix 12"s with remixers as diverse as Stereolab, Jim O'Rourke, Oval, Autechre, Unkle and Derrick Carter. It is no surprise that their return to the remix 12" format features other luminaries of the scene. Side A features none other than Eye from Boredoms doing a remix of the album's opening track "High Class Slim Came Floatin' In". Side AA features the legendary dub/version master Mark Ernestus of Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound doing a Version of the track "Gigantes". Pressed in an edition of 1,500 copies for the world and cut at 45rpm this 12" is sure to sell out instantly (as did the vinyl edition of Beacons). The 12" is presented in a proper LP jacket and features black and white photography from Andrew Paynter. Andrew's photography was also featured on the Beacons of Ancestorship jacket and he was behind the incredible video for the song "Prepare Your Coffin".

	This is a Euro reissue repro LP on the Mainline label. 100 copy private pressing was originally released in 1969. Acid Archives page 250. LP is in TOP CONDITION A local St. Louis, Missouri band. Only 100 copies of their album were pressed and the two non LP 45s were often given away free with it. Were talking an ultra rarity of the highest order here. There are a couple of throwaway country tracks (Happy Face and Got To Keep Travelling On) and the finale, Gettin Off, is marred by a drum solo but the rest is for the most part mindblowing psychedelia. The best of these are Catfish, with some bluesy psychedelic guitar work, and two social commentary songs, Get A Gun and Lets Keep The Children On The Streets, a song about the riots of the sixties...(Fuzz Acid and Flowers)

	ab 1.6.2007 Nach einer wahren Ochsentour durch die internationale Clublandschaft in 2006 (fast 200 Konzerte) meldet sich das Folk-Duo aus San Francisco nun mit fünf vornehmlich ruhigen Songs zurück. Adam Stephens und Tyson Vogel, die in der Vergangenheit vor allem wegen ihrer aggressiven, elektrischen Shows gerühmt wurden, pflegen ihre musikalische Dualität, indem sie die Songs auf „The Scenery of Farewell“ akustisch aufnahmen. Was allerdings nicht bedeutet, dass die fünf Lieder spärlich instrumentiert sind. Neben Gitarren, Klavier und Gartenschlauch sind hier Cello, Geigen und Kontrabass zu hören, die Songs sind allesamt kleine Hymnen für ein sommerliches Beisammensein am Lagerfeuer. „The Scenery of Farewell“ bietet einen Vorgeschmack auf das im Herbst erscheinende dritte Album der beiden Neo-Traditionalisten. Das ist dann wieder elektrisch.
